Everyone has a favorite scene in their beloved movies or a catchy line in their favorite song. But what about your weekend faith pilgrimage – doesn’t that deserve a top 5 list of its own? I think so as well, so let’s see if the Gloria or the creed or the homily break into the top 5 best moments in Mass. And what comes out as the pinnacle? Is it the donuts and social time afterward? My boy would vote for that.
So, here we go – my personal favorites for the five best moments in the Mass.
Number 5 – The Sign of Peace.
I’ll call myself out on this one. I like seeing my friends and acquaintances at Mass. It’s a double bonus if they are sitting close enough to shake hands with during the sign of peace. It is also a nice chance to show my kids some extra affection.

One of my young fiddle students told me how to navigate crossover episodes. It is pretty fun, you watch a TV episode of The Flash, it then continues on Arrow and finishes on Legends of Tomorrow. So this is my lame attempt at a crossover blog from Dane’s post on A Case for Eucharist Piety. Of course I am doing this months later, instead of coordinating and syncing up the following week. Also, the transition from his blog is rather weak and nowhere close to seamless. So the good news is, you can start reading this now, you won’t be at all lost. Well, scratch that. For my generation, it was chicken nugget day. In the big health food craze that has hit the country in the past few years, we learned that it wasn’t actually chicken they were serving, nor are we sure what was in the mystery meat in your sloppy joe. This is a humorous exchange that has been played out in countless high school based movies and television shows. While this may be funny to observe, have we ever considered if we have experienced this feeling elsewhere?

After communion Sunday I was contemplating my own unworthiness and my weaknesses. I try to ask Mary for her Immaculate Heart before I go up to receive Jesus and then enjoy the company of Jesus in Mary’s heart in me. I’m there with them, soaking up every second of it. I started wondering if that’s how St Joseph felt at times. So I brought St Joseph into my meditation, there I was with St. Joseph enjoying the company of the Holy Family. And all of this is in my heart, what love God has for us! And I realized that despite who I am and all of my faults, I really am no match for Jesus. Continue reading “I’m no match for Jesus”
